28.9.1 Particularités dans des phrases négatives


Dans les chapitres antérieurs, nous avons vu que little et few sont utilisés surtout dans des phrases affirmatives. Dans les phrases négatives, on utilise plutôt much et many. Dans le langage familier on peut aussi trouver les constructions ci-dessous.

alternatives à little / few
little not much; hardly any
few not many; hardly any

Exemples
I only have little money.
= I do not have much money.
= I hardly have any money.
They said only a little.
= They did not say much.
= They hardly said anything.
Few people like thunderstorms.
= Not many people like thunderstorms.
= Hardly anybody likes thunderstorms.
There were only a few apples in the basket.
= There were not many apples in the basket.
= There was hardly any apple in the basket.
